Get to know us

GWFC Chaplaincy exists to provide long term sustainably funded chaplaincy in schools and communities.

Our Chaplains are widely connected within the community, helping to connect families in need with the appropriate support agencies.

Partnership with Local Churches to care for Local Schools

In line with our vision to see local schools and communities connected with the local church through the local chaplain, we recruit chaplains who are from local churches. In this way, chaplains already have the advantage of knowing a number of support persons and agencies in the local area.

Any appointed chaplain would, to the best of their ability, see a long-term commitment to the role as most probable. GWFC Chaplaincy recognises that chaplaincy is most effective when strong relationships with executive, staff and students are built over an extended period of time.

The local minister or their representative is responsible for keeping the chaplain accountable to the role description signed by the school's representative, the chaplain and the funding recipient (GWFC Chaplaincy).

Our Chaplains are regularly trained to provide the highest quality care, facilitating a variety of wellbeing programs such as The Resilience Project and Rock and Water, as well as offering ongoing support for our students, staff, and parents.

Safety Standards and Professional Supervision

Chaplains will be required to have a current Working with children check.

Chaplains are expected to have completed the Creating Safe Spaces or equivalent training, and be willing to complete all the mandatory courses prior to the induction at their schools.

Each of our chaplains receives pastoral supervision over six sessions each year. The professional supervisors are external to GWFC Chaplaincy and local churches to ensure there is no conflict of interest.

haplains receive Ongoing Professional Supervision, including 3 professional development days per year and supervision by external professionals.

Ongoing Professional Development

Chaplains are required to participate in at least three professional training days each year, as required by the DET.

GWFC Chaplaincy organises three training days each year where professional trainers are invited to conduct various trainings to equip chaplains. E.g. Youth Mental Health First Aid, Trauma informed pastoral care, Conflict resolution etc. In addition, chaplains are provided ongoing support via the GWFC community.

This is provided for the chaplains free of cost.

Chaplains undergo thorough Skills and Qualifications Assessment, including completion of Creating Safe Spaces or equivalent training and mandatory courses prior to placement in schools.

GWFC Chaplaincy requires the local church minister or their representative to meet monthly with the chaplain for the purpose of accountability and growth. The local church minister should inform GWFC Chaplaincy of any obstacle that would hinder the chaplain from performing their duties to the highest standard.
