Just Being Available

The Impact of Chaplaincy

Providing Comfort in Small Moments

"One day when I arrived at school, a teacher asked if I could go to her classroom. After I arrived there, she told me that a student had been upset all morning and asked if I could have a talk with him. He told me that his dog had run away that morning before he came to school, and he didn't know whether he had returned home or not.

We talked a bit more, and I asked if there was anything else that was bothering him. When he returned to class, I was able to ring his mother, who informed me that the dog had come home, and I was able to relay that to the student. Sometimes being a chaplain is just being available, no matter how big or small we think the problem may be."
