Navigating Grief

The Impact of Chaplaincy

A Chaplain's Role in Supporting Students and Families

"School chaplains are often responders to crises. There was a young student that had a significant death in their family. As a result, they showed a notable change in behavior both in and outside of school. As a school chaplain, the student saw me as someone safe they could trust and confide in. I was able to be a consistent and comforting presence during this time of grieving. During this time, I was also able to offer consolation to their parent as they also came to terms with the loss. In the end, I was able to work with the parent and school to refer the student to a counselor. The student has since been able to return to a normal rhythm of life."
