Unlocking Potential and Building Confidence

The Impact of Chaplaincy

A Chaplain's Impact on Students' Lives

"A year 5 student came to me a few weeks ago and said, 'I have been in this school since kindy, but I can't say I have a best friend here. Whenever I see others talking and laughing in groups, I always have this weird feeling that they are talking about me. I feel quite lonely...' There were false narratives that she was believing in for a long time and allowing herself to be limited from reaching her full potential. After discussing with the school counsellor, I have scheduled to see this student once a week and debrief emotions, provide resources, and help her grow in her appreciation of herself and become less skeptical of others. She seems to be growing in confidence, and I hope she will leave the school to go to high school as a much more confident and bubbly person.

In the last six months, I have been tracking with a year 6 student who confided with me about his life circumstances and fears. I have been meeting him at least once a week and spending time coaching and influencing him positively. With his permission and in consultation with the Wellbeing team, I have reached out to the high school that he would be going to and have discussed strategies and systems to enable him to thrive."
